We recently visited a cosy pub local to Whitby to provide reupholstery services to the pub seating. As with any business that serves food or drink, our team needed to carry out not only a service that would last for a long time, but one that would also finish quickly to prevent monetary loss for the owners. Busy Pub In Need of Seating Refurbishment
The Board Inn is a popular destination in Whitby for residents and tourists alike, just a short walk from many different sights and attractions, including the Whitby Swing Bridge, the Abbey Steps, and the Captain Cook statue. So when the owners of the pub approached our team, they were nervous about closing during busier periods of the day and losing revenue. To try and limit disruption to patrons, we arrived before opening to begin reupholstering the seating within the bar area.
The owners wanted this service because the existing chairs were difficult to maintain, the material worn and prone to holding onto hair and dirt. This was problematic as The Board Inn is a dog-friendly establishment, so the owners were looking to reupholster the seating with a material that was easier to clean and disinfect.
How We Helped
After discussing what sort of material The Board Inn wanted to use for their seating, it was decided that something that was easy to wipe clean with a cloth would be the best option. This is why we decided to use a pleather cover, which is a great option that stops dirt and hair from sticking to the seat.
We began by removing the soft cover that had previously been there, stripping the benches, booths, and stools of this fabric so that we could begin our work. As the seating was quite aged, we replaced the seat and cushion filling to provide a refresh, which in turn increased the longevity of the seating itself. Once that was done, we began to meticulously and carefully reupholster the seats with the pleather cover.
Seating Colour Matters
The reason our team and the management at The Board Inn agreed on using blue pleather for the seating was down to a number of factors. Firstly, the muted colour fits in well with the aesthetic of the rest of the pub interior, not too bright that it stands out too much, but not dull enough that it looks flat against the surroundings.
The blue also works in a hygienic way. Have you ever visited a fast food establishment and noticed workers wearing bright blue plasters? This is because blue is an excellent contrast colour and easy to notice if it falls off and into something like food or drink. The same principle applies to this blue pleather seating – contrasting against dirt, hair, and fur and highlighting any offending mess so that a member of The Board Inn’s professional team can keep the area clean and hygienic. This is especially important as the establishment serves both food and drinks so must adhere to strict health and safety standards.
The Results
Once our team had worked our magic and both new and old patrons began to flood in, we could see just how much of an improvement our upholstery services had been on the space. The sleek pleather was both hygienic and was easily kept clean with a simple wipe down using a spray bottle and cloth.
The management of The Board Inn couldn’t have been happier with the results of their reupholstery for their bar area seating and we have been assured that other local businesses in the area will be receiving a recommendation for professional upholsterers.
